PSAC delegates adopt

three-year base budget with dues increase

OTTAWA - "This move stabilizes the union’s finances and provides it with the necessary resources to continue to effectively represent and provide the service to our membership," said Public Service Alliance of Canada National President Daryl Bean on the adoption of a three-year base budget late Wednesday afternoon during its 12th Triennial Convention.

The budget which includes the proposed dues increase, has been under discussion since the opening of the convention on Monday.

"While I said from the beginning that this would not be a short debate nor an easy debate, I am pleased that our members have given us the resources to continue to effectively represent our membership over the next three years," Bean added.

The percentage dues increase for the base budget for the year 2001 is .1853% for an average of $5.52, for 2002 the increase drops to .1420% (average of $4.23), and for the year 2003 the increase will be .1457% (average of $4.34). These dues are based on the lowest rate in the member’s salary range.

The Public Service Alliance of Canada represents some 140,000 workers from coast to coast to coast.
