Demonstration by PSAC members

No to privatization at National Defence

Ottawa - More than 700 participants at the 12th Triennial Convention of the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) will hold a demonstration to protest the privatization of the supply chain at National Defence, the privatization of its depots and the potential closing of the Canadian Forces Base in Shilo, Manitoba. PSAC members want to show their support for the Union of National Defence Employees (UNDE) fight against the department's multiple privatization projects.

The workers, members of PSAC holding civilian jobs at National Defence, have been fighting for years against the federal government’s privatization projects. A Defence Department business case concluded, last year, that the privatization of the supply chain would not be cost-efficient for the first seven years. An UNDE-PSAC delegation met with the Minister of National Defence Art Eggleton, yesterday, to convey to him the workers’ concerns.
