Threat of strike action brings Treasury Board to the bargaining table: it will take a strike to get a deal

OTTAWA
- The Public Service Alliance of Canada’s (PSAC) announcement that 77,000 of its members will take strike action against the government on August 15th, 22nd and 29th has resulted in Treasury Board’s agreement to return to the bargaining table on August 21st for the Program and Administrative Services group (Table 1) and August 23rd for the Operational Services group (Table 2).

"The threat of strike action brought Treasury Board back to the table," said Nycole Turmel, PSAC national president. "However, it will take a strike to get a deal."

Despite Treasury Board’s decision to return to the bargaining table, strike action will take place as planned.

"In order for the negotiation process to result in fair tentative agreements, it is imperative that the Government of Canada understands the deep-seated frustration that our members have with their employer, the federal government," added Turmel. "Since reasoned arguments and economic data have failed to convince the government to table reasonable wage offers, PSAC members have no alternative but to strike on Wednesday, August 15th, 22nd and 29th to pressure the government while minimizing the impact on the Canadian public."
