Canada Post rotating strikes hit Montreal

OTTAWA - After Winnipeg, Fredericton and Saskatoon, Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) members working for Canada Post have put up their picket lines in front of several Canada Post buildings in the Montreal area today.

Negotiations are still continuing in Ottawa.

"Rotating strikes held in Winnipeg on January 16, in Fredericton and Saskatoon yesterday, and today in Montreal, show that our members categorically reject offers that do not recognize the value of the work they perform at Canada Post," said Luc Guevremont, President of the PSAC Union of Postal Communication Employees (UPCE). "We are willing to reach an agreement with the employer, but they have to revisit their discriminatory job evaluation plan. We are committed to maintaining our strike action until the employer understands this."

The some 2,800 PSAC members at the Canada Post Corporation have been in a legal strike position since January 10. The members voted 70% in favour of the strike on November 26. Their collective agreement expired on October 30, 2001.
