Area Councils
Why my Local should join
Who Can Join
To form an Area Council, three Locals from different Components must make an application to the PSAC.
These Locals must be in a geographical area that will allow meetings to be held at least four times a year.
Direct Charter Locals are also able to join and participate in the workings of an Area Council.
Start up and operational grants are available and the Area Council may decide to charge an affiliation fee.
Purpose
Area councils...
- Are political fora for the PSAC in the region
- They allow discussion with other PSAC activists across Component lines.
- Are recognized in the PSAC Constitution. Area Council delegates have a voice and vote at PSAC National Conventions and the right to submit resolutions to both PSAC National and Regional Conventions.
- Give the PSAC visibility in the region and community.
- Are a link between Locals and the Regional Council
- Assume responsibility for social activities for PSAC members and families in the region.
- Involves Direct Charter Locals in their Union
How to Join
Area Councils are given status by the PSAC through the Regional Executive Vice-President. To form an Area Council where one doesn't exist or to join a pre-existing Area Council, you simply have to pass a motion of this intent at a Local membership meeting.
A letter of this intention must be mailed to the Regional Executive Vice-President and to your Component.
Once the required three letters are received, the REVP will establish the Area Council.
