Canada Post Corporation
Bargaining INFO - March 2, 2004
UPCE prepares for bargaining while Canada Post faces public enquiry
about its role in sponsorship scandal
PSAC members in the Union of
Postal Communications Employees (UPCE) are hard at work in preparation
for the upcoming round of bargaining with Canada Post Corporation.
While Canada Post's President and Chief Executive Officer Andre
Ouellet is under disciplinary sanction and the Corporation prepares
to explain itself to the public enquiry called as a result of Auditor
General's report, the union is focused on getting ready for the upcoming
round of negotiations.
Two of the four regional bargaining
conferences have already taken place and can best be described as
very successful. The Western Regional Bargaining Conference
took place in Edmonton on February 7-8, 2004 . The Quebec Region
held its conference in Montreal on February 21-22, 2004 . At
each conference, members discussed workplace problems, reviewed Local
bargaining proposals, established regional priorities
and elected a member to the negotiating team.
The Atlantic is holding its
regional bargaining conference in Halifax March 6-7, 2004 and the
Ontario region will hold its conference in Ottawa March 20-21, 2004
. Once the four regional conferences have completed their work,
the members elected from the regions will proceed to the National
Bargaining Conference in Ottawa April 18-23, 2004 .
The negotiating team will consist
of the four (4) members elected from the regions and the UPCE national
president. The current collective agreement expires October
31, 2004.
