Canada Post Corporation

Bargaining INFO - July 14, 2004

Because they were not prepared, Canada Post delayed the exchange of demands

As you know, your PSAC/UPCE Bargaining Team is meeting in Ottawa to commence this round of negotiations with the Corporation. Monday and Tuesday, July 12 and 13, were spent in caucus. Both parties agreed to meet to begin the process today, Wednesday, by performing the formal exchange of bargaining demands.

Well, that was the plan. While the Corporation has put in writing they want a new collective agreement by the end of October, they were not ready to exchange bargaining proposals with your Team today. Your Team was not prepared to give the Corporation our package without receiving the Corporation’s proposals, so the exchange has been delayed until tomorrow, Thursday, July 15.

This delay is unfortunate, as it’s not a great way to start the bargaining for your next collective agreement. Here’s hoping things improve in the coming days!

Your Bargaining Team will continue to keep you informed; please be sure to check the PSAC and the UPCE websites for news of your negotiations.
