Canada Post Corporation

Bargaining INFO - July 29, 2004

3 days of negotiations : the employers asks for rollbacks

Your UPCE Bargaining Team met with Canada Post again this week to continue its effort in achieving a collective agreement that reflects the value and needs of its members.

It was agreed to concentrate on non-monetary issues at the outset; any cost related items will be dealt with later in the process.

Information was exchanged on several demands representing issues submitted by you, the members, at local/regional bargaining and ratification meetings. Your Team presented evidence and rationales to substantiate your needs and reflect your frustrations with the way you are treated in the workplace.   Although the employer tabled demands that represent rollbacks and/or administrative changes, the demands tabled so far by your Team include:

•  Information ( 9.06, 9.07, 9.08)

•  Joint consultation (11.05, 11.06)

•  Job Descriptions (21.05)

•  Medical certificate (43.09)

•  Local Agreements (1.02)

•  Employees remain on payroll (41.17)

•  Discrimination (13.01)

•  Harassment (14.01, 14.02, new: Joint   training)

•  Performance Review (23.01)

•  Seniority for terms amongst terms (24, 24.09)

•  Discipline (20.03, Whistleblowing)

•  Education LWoP   (44.01)

•  Newly Created Positions (App.“L”)

•  Definition of “position” (2.01xx)

Although given substantial information on matters that we and the membership feel strongly about, Canada Post does not appear to be forthcoming with consideration for your needs.   They have, however, offered to continue to “think about” our proposals, and will advise us of their position as it develops.

Your Team is not swayed by the Employer.   You have communicated your needs to us and we, with your ongoing support, will continue to represent your concerns in front of the employer.

In Solidarity,

Your UPCE/PSAC Bargaining Team
