PSAC Canada Post Corporation Negotiations Update
June 7, 2002
On Monday, June 3, 2002, your UPCE negotiating team and
Canada Post Corporation came to an agreement in principle on the Job Evaluation
Plan, with final details having been worked out on Thursday, June 6, 2002.
"It’s the best we could achieve at this time" said Luc Guevremont,
National President, UPCE. While not perfect, JEP does provide some benefit to
the membership; one that can be built upon in the next round of negotiations.
The parties agreed to the following JEP issues:
- No employee shall see their
classification go down from the January 2, 2002 letter from the Corporation,
- Part-time members will receive
their increments on an annual basis, and not every two years,
- EL and ENG members shall receive
their annual increments without the need for a performance appraisal,
- Salary protected members will
receive the remaining economic increases on salary, and not as a lump sum,
- Anniversary dates have been moved
to June 3 for all employees,
- FI members retain their 36.25 hours
per week work schedule,
- All issues relating to surplus
employees.
As JEP has impacts outside of classification, the parties
agreed to a sixty-day period to meet, consult and try and resolve the following:
- How to properly evaluate those
employees who were mapped,
- The impact of JEP on the Collective
Agreement.
More information will be following shortly. Your Team
appreciates all the support from the UPCE membership, and thanks everyone for
their involvement in the process. The next step will be reviewing the
outstanding issues outlined above, as well as preparing for the Classification
Review Committee. We will continue to seek improvements and benefits for the
membership of UPCE.
