There are over 25,000 members in this bargaining unit, the second largest unit at the PSAC. Our members review and process tax returns, provide tax information services for the public, and intake the billions of dollars of government revenue collected by the CRA. They also run the offices, maintain the equipment and buildings, and carry out the administrative work of the CRA.  The unit falls under the Public Service Labour Relations Act.

Omnibus bill would reduce CRA's independence

UTE is very disappointed that one of the changes in the Harper government's latest omnibus legislation would compromise the independence of the Canada Revenue Agency. The change, in Division 24 of Part four would make CRA get Treasury Board approval for its negotiating mandate as well as requiring the employer to consult Treasury Board on other issues. "This move to put the CRA back under the thumb of Treasury Board makes no sense" said UTE president Robert Campbell in a bulletin posted to the UTE website.
