Defending Quality Public Services
Your tax dollars at work
Our tax system is our way of pooling our money so that we can collectively afford quality public services. With less government revenue we won't be able to keep our services public. Those who can afford to will pay directly for the services, while those with lower incomes will likely have to do without services – even if they desperately need them.
Tax cuts may sound appealing, but we should be suspicious when politicians and political parties talk about tax cuts. They claim it brings relief to ordinary citizens. Ask them what they mean by "ordinary citizens". They certainly do not mean working families. Tax cuts don't put more money in our pockets. Instead, we end up paying user fees and other 'hidden' taxes to pay for needed services.
