Universal Classification Standard
Your pay depends on it!
PSAC National Board of Directord adopts a resolution
May 2002
Following the federal government’s recent announcement on classification
reform, the PSAC National Board of Directors adopted the following resolution at
its May meeting:
WHEREAS the government announced the implementation
of a new classification reform process on May 8, 2002; and
WHEREAS this so-called classification reform will
maintain a system of multiple standards, signaling the end of the Universal
Classification Standard (UCS); and
WHEREAS the federal government's classification
reform will undermine pay equity and the economic well being of the
overwhelming majority of PSAC members employed in the federal public sector:
BE IT RESOLVED THAT the PSAC strongly condemn the
federal government's decision not to implement a single, universal plan in
the federal public sector; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the PSAC develop a campaign against the
federal government's action and in support of a universal classification
standard that includes membership mobilization, political action and legal
action; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT this plan of action be
presented to the Component Presidents for approval by the end of August
2002.
