Canadians believe in enhanced public services to ensure health protection and safety for all

The Public Service Alliance of Canada launches a major, nation-wide public awareness campaign on the key role of federal public sector workers

The National President of the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC), Nycole Turmel announced today a major, Canada-wide public awareness campaign on the key role of public sector workers in protecting and enhancing the quality of life of all Canadians.

« Canadians will be facing difficult choices in the coming months as it relates to the enhancement of public services which are currently readily accessible and available », states Ms. Turmel.

The PSAC wants to renew the dialogue with Canadians at a time when unprecedented crisis affect food safety, security, water quality and when various attempts to privatize public services have failed.

« We are fast approaching a federal election, explains Ms. Turmel.   This is an ideal time to remind Canadians of the quality of services offered by workers in the public sector.   I call upon Prime Minister Martin and the Government of Canada to continue to protect the quality of life of Canadians and resist any initiative which would reduce public services through privatization and contracting-out such services. »

The theme of the campaign will be ‘ The people behind the services' .   In coming weeks, advertisements will run on national television and in national magazines throughout Canada .   These ads will feature public service workers who are members of the PSAC.   The dialogue will also take place through a dedicated, campaign web site at www.workingforcanadians.ca

« The campaign will make Canadians more aware of the professionalism and richness of our public sector workers.   Our public sector is among the best in the world », adds Ms. Turmel.

The campaign will also acknowledge the 150,000 members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada who silently devote themselves day and night, seven days a week to serving Canadians.
