National Day Against Homophobia – May 17th
The PSAC held its 2nd Pride Conference this year in Vancouver under the theme “Included and Be Included”. It is clear that Lesbians, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) persons are often victims of violence, discrimination and harassment based on their sexual orientation. Their livelihood, their careers and their health are affected by it. Homophobia must not be tolerated in any aspect of our lives including in our communities and workplaces.
The PSAC has a history of fighting discrimination to ensure that members of the LGBT communities are treated with dignity, justice and respect. This fight is often led by the LGBT activists who struggle courageously through their unions and community groups to raise awareness and fight for justice for LGBT issues everywhere.
The PSAC strongly believes that LGBT rights are workers' rights. At the bargaining table, in the workplace and at the legislative level, the PSAC will continue to work towards a homophobia-free workplace and community where the rights of all are respected.
