Negotiations with Canada Post
Your sick leave
Your bargaining team has been back at the negotiating table since Saturday. In the interest of getting a deal, we made a major move and have put a counter-proposal on the Short-term disability program on the table.
And Canada Post's idea of negotiating was to come back 18 hours later to say “No.” And then send out an email to members that seriously twisted the truth.
So what's on the table? Here are the differences between the parties regarding Short-Term Disability. There are many small details that are not reflected in this table, but these are the major points of disagreement between the parties right now.
| Issue | PSAC/UPCE Position | Employer's Position |
|---|---|---|
Family-Related Leave |
Members keep their Family-Related Leave to use when taking care of sick children or relatives. |
If you have no vacation leave, personal days, or any other leave, Canada Post may or may not grant you paid leave. |

Who decides if you're sick |
Your doctor decides. When you have a doctor's note you are eligible to be off sick. |
Manulife decides. If they disagree with your doctor, you will not receive STD Benefits |
If you disagree with Manulife's assessment of your sick claim |
You can grieve it and it will ultimately be settled by an arbitrator |
If Canada Post agrees with Manulife's decision, you have no recourse. |

The only way that we can move Canada Post is for you to continue to stay strong on the line and continue to support your bargaining team!
