Bargaining Team Unanimously Recommends Rejection on Revised CPC Offer

Why is the team recommending rejection of this offer?

The bargaining team is satisfied with most of the offer presented by CPC.  The reason that the team is unanimously recommending rejection is the removal of Family Related Leave and of course CPC's sick leave scheme.

  • This is a bad plan and it is a cheap plan
  • It is a major concession that will affect your working lives well into the future
  • After reviewing the confidential plan documents it is clear that your health is the last thing that CPC is concerned about
  • It gives the employer's Doctor (their service provider) access to all your private medical information, whether relates to your claim for STD or not;
  • The service provider through CPC (who has designed and will pay for the plan) will control how, when  and whether  or not you can access benefits
  • If you have no accumulated sick leave you will only receive 70% of your wages
  • To continue to receive benefits under the plan you must comply strictly with the return to work plan - even if you and your own doctor disagree with that plan. If you don't, your benefits will be cut off
  • The service provider will report its decisions in writing to your team leader – and only verbally to you
  • It uses Employment Insurance
  • You will lose the ability to accumulate sick leave credits after December 31, 2009
  • Your sick leave credits will be converted to top up credits and they will forever only be available to you as top up credits and only if you are eligible for the plan
  • There will be a reduction in sick leave days, personal days will not accumulate
  • Family Related leave will be removed from the collective agreement
  • Personal days are subject to operational requirements and you will need to provide 7 days notice prior to your absence

What does my vote mean?

  • If you vote yes you are accepting the employer's proposal as is
  • If you vote no, you are rejecting the employer's offer and sending CPC a message that they should be able to understand
  • If you vote no, you will remain on strike and you are giving your team a renewed mandate to negotiate
  • If you vote no, we will need you to tell us on the back of the ballot either  ''NO STD'' or ''BETTER STD'' It will provide your bargaining team with a clearer indication of how you want us to proceed

What about PSAC support?

  • We know that this is extremely difficult for all strikers and their families – especially this time of year
  • Your union will continue to pay your benefits as long is it is needed
  • Your union will fight for the reinstatement of terms
  • Your union will take on all illegal actions committed by this employer
  • Your union is here to support you for however long it takes
