Union conference to discuss current climate of racial discrimination

MONTREAL – Racialized delegates of the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) from across the country will have an opportunity to examine issues that have a direct impact on their communities such as the current backlash and debate on the issue of reasonable accommodation, racial profiling and security, and the cut-backs of public services. These issues are also workshop topics at the union's National Conference for Racially Visible Members.

With the theme “Be the Change: Create a Better World,” the three-day conference aims to strengthen solidarity and to empower, politicize and mobilize members to take on leadership and action to ensure their union, workplaces and communities are free of racism.

Speakers at the conference are:

John Gordon, PSAC National President;
Yasmina Chouakri, Quebec Women's Federation;
Fo Niemi, Centre for Research-Action on Race Relations;
Hassan Yussuff, Secretary Treasurer, Canadian Labour Congress.
