Negotiations with NavCanada: Process begins
PSAC delegates from NavCanada locals across the country gathered in Ottawa for the first PSAC-NavCan National Bargaining Conference from February 19 to 21, 2009. Under the new PSAC Regulation 15, which governs collective bargaining, all bargaining units with members in all regions of the country are entitled to a bargaining conference. The goal of the two-and-a-half day conference was to launch the process that will eventually lead to the renewal of PSAC members' collective agreement with NavCanada.
During the conference, the delegates reviewed and prioritized all the demands members had submitted. Their recommendations will guide the bargaining team in preparing the final package of demands for presentation to the employer on the first day of bargaining.
PSAC National President John Gordon and PSAC NCR Regional Executive Vice-President Maria Fitzpatrick spoke to the Conference about the importance of this round and re-affirmed the PSAC's commitment to support the bargaining team in its efforts to win a fair contract in the coming round with Nav Canada.
The conference also included the participation of UCTE National President Christine Collins, UCTE National Vice-President Kerry Williams, UCTE Pacific Regional Vice-President Stephen Dunsmore, PSAC Executive Vice-President Gerry Halabecki and PSAC National Vice-President Patty Ducharme.
The delegates also elected the members of the national bargaining team. They are: Michelle Webster, Mechelle Byers and Mike Mccullough. They also elected two alternate team members: Linda Wisking and Rachelle Clayton. PSAC Negotiator Gaby Lévesque and PSAC Research Officer David-Alexandre Leblanc are also part of the team, along with PSAC Ontario Regional Executive Vice-President Gerry Halabecki and UCTE Vice-President Kerry Williams.
