Update for Striking Museum Workers Concerning Unusual Correspondence from CMCC

On Friday of this week striking PSAC members at the Canadian Museum of Civilization and the Canadian War Museum began receiving Records of Employment in the mail. We do not know why the corporation has sent these to striking employees, particularly given that Section 94 of the Canada Labour Code clearly states that no employer may terminate, layoff, discipline, transfer, suspend, intimidate, threaten or otherwise discriminate against an employee for participating in a legal strike, and given that no other federal employer in the 43 year history of our union has sent out such correspondence to striking members of our union. Our lawyers will be following up with the corporation's legal counsel on Tuesday to find out why management has spent time and resources sending out documentation that has no legal relevance under the circumstances. If we determine that it is an attempt on the part of CMCC to intimidate PSAC members on strike, we will file unfair labour practice charges against the corporation for violation of the Canada Labour Code.

In the meantime, we suggest that members ignore the Records of Employment sent by management.
