PSAC prepared to negotiate with museum

This morning, striking workers at the Canadian Museum of Civilization and War Museum gave their union a mandate to seek a fair settlement to their 59-day dispute through binding arbitration. Shortly afterwards, the Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation requested to resume negotiations with the union.

PSAC will go back to the bargaining table as we have been prepared to do since the outset of this strike on September 21, 2009.

It is unfortunate that it was the threat of arbitration that compelled the museum to agree to negotiate.

After nine weeks, our members are determined as ever to achieve a collective agreement that meets the standards that are already in place with other museums and arts-related employers in the National Capital Region.

The union will be returning to the bargaining table on Friday, November 20.
