PSAC North shows its pride
PSAC members participated in LGBT pride activities all over the Northwest Territories this weekend, celebrating in Yellowknife, Inuvik, Fort Smith and Hay River. This is the first time that activities have been held outside of Yellowknife – a big step forward for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities in the Territories.
"At PSAC, our mandate is to support and defend the equal rights for all, and fight discrimination in both the workplace and the community," said Regional Executive Vice-President Jean-Francois Des Lauriers, in an interview with the Yellowknifer. "We are at the forefront of these issues. It is natural for us to participate … [The Harper government] has rolled back the clock on human rights 30 or 50 years. It is more important than ever that good people stand up.”
