GNWT opening offer an insult says Parsons
Six cents an hour. That's the increase the lowest-paid employees with the Government of the Northwest Territories have been offered.
“We realize this is an opening offer”, says Todd Parsons, president of the Union of Northern Workers component. “But it's an insult to our members, especially considering that inflation was about 3.2% last year.”
The union bargaining team is taking a strong stand against concessions tabled by the government. One proposal would change the standard hours of work which could severely disrupt employees' work-life balance.
Negotiations resume starting February 27.
