RO team presents hundreds of petition signatures to Stats Can at bargaining table
PSAC members at SSO send clear message to employer
This past week (July 9th), our Regional Offices bargaining team met with Stats Can in an effort to bring the parties closer to a new contract. During the session, our team presented management with petitions containing just under six hundred and fifty signatures from SSO employees working in regional offices, signatures in support of our core demands in this round of bargaining. The petitions called on Statistics Canada to agree to a contract that introduces fair systems for hours of work scheduling, systems that would provide protections, stability, recognize our years of service and bring our working conditions in line with other unionized federal workers. Our team indicated that the problems raised by our negotiating team in bargaining are very serious and negatively impact employee morale, and that resolving ongoing issues related to fairness in the workplace is in the interests of everyone working at SSO.
Our team explained to management that we are determined to achieve a fair contract that addresses these concerns.
Management committed to provide a response on these issues when the parties next meet in negotiations.
Bargaining team tables wage proposal
Our team also tabled our wage proposals. Our proposal would see all Regional Office employees move from current wage rates to the wage rates of Treasury Board workers doing equivalent work (CR-3 rate for Interviewers and CR-5 rate for Senior Interviewers). We work for the federal government. We deserve to earn the same wages as other unionized federal workers doing equivalent work. Our proposal would also ensure that annual increases meet current inflationary trends.
We’ll be sure to update as things progress. If you have any questions, follow up with your shop steward or a member of our bargaining team.
