Workers at Town of Fort Smith on strike

More than 60 workers at the Town of Fort Smith are on strike, determined to secure the all-important “No Contracting Out” language that had been previously accepted.

The town, led by a Mayor who appears to be oblivious to the rules of bargaining, had agreed to a wage package of 2.5% in each year of a two-year contract.

The last provocative flip-flop had workers paying for job security with an offer of 1.5% in each year of a two-year contract with contracting out removed from the collective agreement.

Four strong picket lines are up around town. Members’ spirits are high.

Julie Docherty, Regional Executive Vice-President for the North and Todd Parsons, President of the Union of Northern Workers are requesting your messages of support and solidarity.
