Past service in Canadian Forces now counts for vacation leave with more employers
PSAC has signed up the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and for the Staff of the Non-Public Funds to recognize this service.
More PSAC agreements recognize past service in the Canadian Forces when calculating vacation leave.
PSAC is continuing to achieve success in signing letters of understanding with employers to recognize Canadian Forces service for vacation leave. The latest employers include:
- the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council
- the Canadian Institutes of Health Research
- the Staff of the Non-Public Funds where PSAC has members (Canadian Forces Bases Montreal and St. Jean, Valcartier, Bagotville, Goose Bay, Gagetown, Ottawa, Petawawa, Trenton, Kingston, Suffield and at national defence headquarters in Ottawa)
This new benefit is retroactive to April 1, 2012 and only applies to the amount of vacation
This benefit applies retroactively to anyone employed as of April 1, 2012 and to future hires. Employees must have at least six months of continuous service either as a member of the Regular Forces or the Reserve Force while on Class B or Class C service to qualify to have their service included in the calculation of their vacation leave.
This improvement does not affect any other contract provisions such as the scheduling of vacation leave.
