The PSAC invites all of our members to attend the The Sisters in Spirit vigils that will be held across the country on October 4th

These vigils are meant to honour the more than 600 Aboriginal women that have been murdered or gone missing and to keep their memories alive. They are also meant to draw public attention to this horrific violence as a way to help end the assaults on native women.

The Native Women's Association of Canada included this in their annual statement: “Support holding a National Inquiry into missing and murdered Aboriginal women and girls in Canada. I also ask that you involve those most affected by this tragic issue – Aboriginal women – in the design, decision-making, process and implementation of this inquiry.”

The PSAC has signed on as a public supporter of this joint statement and fully endorses its recommendations. “For too long, the police and the courts have fallen short in their efforts to provide justice to the families of these women” says National President Robyn Benson, “and I encourage all of our members to stand as allies by participating in your community's event.”

In most every measure Aboriginal women are the most marginalized groups in the country – fearing for one's life should not be a daily routine.  Please do what you can to bring a friend to the vigil in your community.
